FAQ

Can used HP PA12 powder from MJF really be reused in SLS?

Yes. With the right conditioning process and our Lisa X profile, used HP PA12 delivers reliable prints comparable to virgin SLS powder.

Which HP powders are compatible?

Only HP High Reusability PA12 (4200/5200) and HP High Reusability CB PA12 (300/500). W39 (5420) is not compatible.

How much carbon additive is needed?

7 g per 1 kg of powder. For an 8 kg batch, that’s 56 g.

What equipment is recommended?

A sieve (MultiPHS), high-speed mixer (Cadmix II), precision scales, carbon additive, and PE-lined buckets for storage.

How long does the conditioning process take?

About 2 hours per 8 kg batch, with only ~30 minutes of hands-on work.

Does this require special hardware modifications on Lisa X?

No. Lisa X’s open-material system works with custom profiles out of the box.

How many times can powder be reused?

There is no strict limit, but quality should be monitored after each cycle. Calibration prints help identify when powder should be retired.

How should conditioned powder be stored?

In sealed, PE-lined containers with desiccants. Keep humidity below 20%.

Is there a risk of print failures with reused powder?

As long as mixing and storage are done correctly, performance is stable. Risks usually come from poor batch control or high humidity.

What if my company only uses MJF and not SLS?

Conditioned powder can only be reused in open-platform SLS printers. If you don’t have SLS capacity, consider collaboration with partners who do.
