From idea to functional prototype without limits

Unlock high-speed design freedom with industrial-grade SLS prototyping — ready for drones, wearables, electronics, and more

Why choose rapid prototyping SLS?

SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) unlocks unmatched prototyping power for innovators and engineers. With no support structures needed, you can design complex, functional prototypes — even with moving parts, lattices, and internal geometries.
From drones and medical orthotics to short-run production parts — Sinterit brings industrial-grade prototyping to your desktop.

What makes the SLS prototype process with Sinterit unique?

No support structures

SLS allows you to prototype complex parts — even with internal channels or interlocking components — in a single print. Since there are no support structures to remove, you save hours of post-processing and avoid damaging delicate details. It’s ideal for iterative prototyping of mechanical assemblies that would be impossible with FDM or SLA.

SLS material strength

Functional prototypes behave more like end-use parts thanks to the mechanical integrity of SLS materials like PA12. You can test fit, mechanical loads, and moving parts in real-world scenarios — without needing to over-engineer or compromise geometry. This makes SLS the go-to solution for validating designs before committing to tooling.

prototyping-2

Fast turnaround

Rapid iteration is the backbone of effective prototyping. With Lisa X, you can run overnight jobs and start testing parts the very next day — including multiple variants in a single print run. That means fewer bottlenecks, faster feedback loops, and faster time-to-decision.

Industry 4.0 ready

For R&D teams working in connected environments, Sinterit offers a system that fits easily into digital workflows. Monitor usage, integrate with design validation tools, or automate reporting as part of your development pipeline. It’s a scalable setup that works whether you’re running one printer or planning a prototyping farm.

Jakub Malec
Application Engineer, Sinterit

As an engineer, what I value most in SLS prototyping is the ability to go from concept to a fully functional part without compromises. I can design complex geometries, test mechanical fit, and iterate within a day — all in-house. It’s the kind of speed and flexibility that transforms how we approach R&D. The fact that I don’t need support structures or tooling means we move faster and with fewer design limitations. And because our parts come out strong and accurate, they’re often tested — and used — like final products.

Types of SLS prototyping

What is visual prototyping?

  • Focus on look & feel
  • Verifies aesthetics, shape, proportions
  • Used for design reviews and client feedback
  • Often printed with PA12 Smooth or similar
  • Not intended for mechanical testing

What is functional prototyping?

  • Focus on performance & durability
  • Verifies fit, strength, movement
  • Used in engineering tests or real-use simulation
  • Printed with PA12 Industrial, PA 11.5, or PA11 Onyx
  • Allows field trials before production

FAQ – prototyping with SLS

What is SLS prototyping?

SLS prototyping refers to the use of Selective Laser Sintering — a professional 3D printing technology — to create functional prototypes directly from powder materials. A laser fuses thin layers of nylon or other polymers into solid parts, without needing support structures.

Thanks to its design freedom, material strength, and surface quality, SLS is ideal for:
– functional tests, complex assemblies,
– iterative product development,
– parts that resemble end-use performance.

With Sinterit SLS printers, you can prototype quickly, affordably, and in-house — with results that rival injection-molded parts.

Are SLS 3D printed parts strong enough for functional testing?

Absolutely. SLS delivers isotropic parts with superior mechanical strength, impact resistance, and dimensional accuracy — ideal for working prototypes, even under stress or load.

Can I print assemblies with moving parts?

Yes! With SLS, you don’t need support structures. You can print hinges, gears, channels, or living joints in a single print — no assembly or cleaning required.

How fast can I get a prototype?

You can get full-bed parts overnight using the Lisa X, printing up to 14 cm/h. That’s days or even weeks faster than service providers.

How many materials can I use with one printer?

Sinterit’s system supports up to 10 materials, and you can switch jobs easily without fully removing previous powders — saving both time and resources.

Do I need a large team or special training?

Not at all. Sinterit’s ecosystem is designed to be easy to use by engineers, designers, or researchers. Most users are up and running with just a short onboarding.

Is SLS just for prototypes?

No — many customers use our SLS printers for low-volume production, especially when tooling isn’t justified or time-to-market is critical.

Is it compatible with my Industry 4.0 setup?

Yes. The Lisa X integrates with your digital workflows using API and monitoring features, supporting traceability, automation, and resource management.

Pricing

Below there are approximate costs for some example models.
Be aware that the quotation assumes that there is only one piece printed. In SLS technology, the cost per part will be much lower with a higher number of elements printed at once.
